Privacy

Our department is the lead agency for implementing privacy policy across Queensland Government.

To address your concerns about unauthorised use of personal information, the Queensland Government operates a privacy scheme.

The scheme ensures government agencies respect your personal information. Personal information is any information that would allow you to be identified, for example your name, age or physical characteristics.

There are strict rules about how this information is collected, stored, accessed, updated, used and disclosed. The rules aim to protect electronic and printed information about you from being lost, misused or inappropriately modified or disclosed.

The scheme operates under administrative means rather than legislation and is based on the same rules that apply to the federal public sector under the Commonwealth Privacy Act 1988.

The Department of Justice and Attorney-General privacy plan 2007 provides you and departmental staff with information about the Queensland Government's policy on privacy and how to protect the privacy of personal information.
