
Application for a marriage certificate
You can obtain a copy of a marriage certificate if you meet the requirements of our certificate access policy. You will need to prove your identity and pay the required fee. If you are applying on behalf of someone else, you will need their written approval as well as your and their identification.
You need to complete the application form and send it to us by mail. If you live in or near Brisbane, you can apply at our office at 110 George Street, Brisbane.
You can also apply at your nearest magistrates court or Queensland Government agency office.

Applications cannot be emailed or faxed.
How do I obtain a commemorative marriage certificate?You can obtain a commemorative marriage certificate is you meet the requirements of our certificate access policy.
You need to complete a commemorative marriage certificate order form and prove your identity by providing photocopies of documents which a qualified witness has certified as true copies of the originals. A qualified witness is a justice of the peace, commissioner for declarations, notary public, solicitor or barrister.
What if I am researching family history?
Anyone may apply for certificates of marriages registered more than 80 years ago.
For marriages recorded less than 80 years ago, access to certificates is normally restricted to immediate family members.
