For Indigenous people
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people continue to be over-represented in Queensland’s criminal justice system.
Nearly 27 per cent of all adult prisoners and 60 per cent of juveniles in detention are Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander people, yet Indigenous people constitute only 3.5 per cent of Queensland’s population.
We are working actively with other government agencies and Queensland’s courts to:
- reduce offending
- create safer communities
- strengthen Indigenous people's role in addressing justice issues in their communities.
