Adoptions |
Whilst the Department of Communities (Child Safety Services) administer the adoption process in Queensland, it is our responsibility to register these adoptions.
Birth certificates
If you were born and/or adopted in Queensland, and you need a birth certificate that shows your details after adoption, you can apply for your birth certificate in the normal manner. If you were born outside Queensland or if your adoption is not registered in Queensland, you will need to contact the registering authority in the state or country of your birth.
If you are an adopted person born in Queensland, and you need a birth certificate that shows your details before adoption (including your biological parents’ details), you need to contact the Department of Communities (Child Safety Services). If the adoption took place outside of Queensland, you will need to contact the relevant agency in the state (see below) or country of your adoption.
