Statutory authorities
There are a number of independent statutory authorities working as part of the Queensland justice system. Some report to Parliament through the Attorney-General and Minister for Justice and a number of others report directly to Parliament.

Anti-Discrimination Commission Queensland
The Anti-Discrimination Commission Queensland receives and deals with complaints of discrimination and other contraventions of the Act and promotes human rights.
Director of Public Prosecutions
The Director of Public Prosecutions is an independent officer responsible for providing the state with expert legal representation so that the evidence against someone accused of a serious crime can be properly presented to the court.
Industrial Relations Education Committee
The Industrial Relations Education Committee (IREC) offers a program of guest speakers, and other information on industrial relations topics, to teachers and students from representatives of unions, employer associations and the state government.
Legal Aid Queensland
Legal Aid Queensland provides access to justice for disadvantaged Queenslanders by providing legal information, advice and representation.
Legal Services Commission
The Legal Services Commission works to protect the rights of legal consumers and promote high standards of conduct in the delivery of legal services in Queensland. The commission receives and deals with complaints about lawyers, conducts investigations and audits, initiates disciplinary or other regulatory action, contributes to policy discussion and undertakes projects and research.
Office of General Counsel
The Office of General Counsel is the department's 'in-house' legal unit and provides a range of legal services to the Minister and the executive management of the department on a wide range of matters.
Office of the Public Trustee
The Office of the Public Trustee is the largest trust office in Queensland and provides financial, trustee and legal services to the people of Queensland.
QComp
QComp oversees the Queensland workers’ compensation scheme by regulating, resolving disputes, educating, informing and managing data.
QLeave
QLeave manages portable long service leave benefits for the contract cleaning industry and the building and construction industry.
Queensland Industrial Relations Commission
The Queensland Industrial Relations Commission conciliates and arbitrates industrial matters.
Queensland Law Reform Commission
The Queensland Law Reform Commission makes recommendations about areas of law in need of reform and submits reports to the Attorney-General which are required to be tabled in Parliament.
Queensland Workplace Rights Ombudsman
The Queensland Workplace Rights Ombudsman provides information and advice to Queensland workers and employers about their workplace rights and obligations, and promotes fair and equitable practices in Queensland workplaces.
Sentencing Advisory Council
The Sentencing Advisory Council promotes consistency in sentencing, stimulates balanced public debate and raises awareness about the complexities of the sentencing process.
WorkCover
WorkCover Queensland provides and manages workers’ compensation insurance for the people of Queensland.

Crime and Misconduct Commission
The Crime and Misconduct Commission combats major crime, raises public sector integrity and protects witnesses. Other services also include research, advice, intelligence and surveillance.
Electoral Commission of Queensland
The Electoral Commission of Queensland (ECQ) administers electoral laws, conducts parliamentary and industrial elections and reviews local government boundaries.
Office of the Ombudsman
The Queensland Ombudsman's Office ensures state government departments and bodies, and local councils, act fairly and make the right decisions for Queenslanders. This includes working with public agencies to improve their decision-making and administrative practice for the benefit of the community.
Office of the Information Commissioner
The Office of the Information Commissioner promotes access to government-held information and protects people’s personal information held by government under the Information Privacy Act 2009.
