One-stop shop for safety and workers’ compensation

A new combined safety and workers’ compensation website is providing Queensland employers and workers with a single spot to access injury prevention and workers’ compensation information and services.

Office of Fair and Safe Work head Dr Simon Blackwood said the one-stop shop continued the Government's push to reduce the burden of regulatory compliance and make it easier to do business in Queensland.

"The new website at worksafe.qld.gov.au incorporates Workplace Health and Safety Queensland, WorkCover Queensland, the Electrical Safety Office and the former Q-COMP websites under one umbrella," Dr Blackwood said.

"A single phone number 1300 362 128 has also replaced the separate numbers for each of these organisations, making it simpler to contact the relevant agency.”

Dr Blackwood said the new website was designed with input from employers, workers and safety professionals from all industries.

"The result is a one-stop shop that provides the right answer as quickly as possible and removes the need to supply the same information to multiple government bodies," he said.

"A combined online incident notification and claim form is also being produced that will further reduce duplication for business.

"Over the past two years we have seen a continuing fall in fatality and serious injury rates in Queensland workplaces. This is a tremendous achievement that not only means our workers are safer, but is starting to pay real dividends as our workers’ compensation premiums are now the lowest in Australia.

“Now we want to ensure that the information and services we provide to industry are accessible and customer-focused. Queensland’s safety and workers’ compensation service provides the right answers whenever, wherever and in the format they are needed.

“By standing shoulder to shoulder with industry and providing the tools and resources to assist businesses with injury prevention and management, I am confident that we will continue to reap safety rewards.”

The new website features:

  • a responsive design that is optimised for mobile devices and based on Queensland industry feedback
  • a proactive approach to delivering work health and safety and workers’ compensation messages and services to Queensland businesses
  • cloud-based hosting with emphasis on security, site performance and accessibility
  • online applications that support the Queensland Government’s commitment to red tape reduction.
