Gambling Community Benefit Committee members

Ashley Robinson OAM — Chairman
Appointment: 24 August 2014 to 23 August 2017.
Mr Ashley Robinson is the General Manager of Alex Surf Life Saving Club. He joined the club in 2010 after a successful career managing hotels and hospitality organisations. Mr Robinson has held many executive positions, including Chairman of Sunshine Coast Rugby League Football Club, Chairman of the Sunshine Coast Events Centre and Chairman of Sunshine Butterflies. Mr Robinson has been inducted into the Sunshine Coast Rugby League Football Club Hall of Fame for services to rugby league and was the co-founder of Island Charity Swim— raising money for children with disabilities.

Tony Condon
Appointment: 24 August 2014 to 23 August 2017.
Mr Tony Condon is the owner of the Currumbin Creek Tavern. He has worked with many and varied community organisations and has almost 40 years experience in the hotel industry. Tony is currently Chairman of Independent Brands Australia (IBA) Queensland and sits on the IBA national board. He is also Chairman of the Queensland Hotels Association (QHA) Gold Coast division, Secretary/Treasurer of QHA's Queensland board and is a member of the Australian Liquor Marketers board.

Andrew Costello
Appointment: 24 August 2014 to 23 August 2017.
Mr Andrew Costello is the Executive Manager of Human Resources for Casinos Austria International/Accor Asia Pacific. He has 22 years experience within the human resources sector, which includes hospitality, retail and not-for-profit organisations. Mr Costello is also an active member of the Reef Hotel Casino’s Executive Leadership Team.

Deirdre Ford AM
Appointment: 24 August 2014 to 23 August 2017.
Ms Deirdre Ford served 4 terms on Cairns City Council and was Chair of the Finance and Community Services Committees. She has been a member of various Queensland Government boards, including the Residential Tenancy Authority, State Library of Queensland, North Queensland Community Corrections and the Regional Galleries Association. Locally, she has been on the board of the Cairns Regional Gallery, the Cairns Hockey Association and the Cootharinga Society of North Queensland, and is patron of several community organisations. Ms Ford has been a member of Zonta International and the Australian Federation of Business and Professional Women and was awarded a Member of The Order of Australia (AM) in 2000.

Narelle Galloway
Appointment: 24 August 2014 to 23 August 2017.
Mrs Narelle Galloway has recently retired from her teaching career spanning 40 years, which included the roles of classroom teacher, teacher librarian, Key Teacher Yr2 Net, experienced senior teacher and support teacher: literacy and numeracy. Mrs Galloway and her husband have a beef production enterprise and she is an active community member who has held many positions in clubs, charities and sporting and craft groups. She continues her community involvement with organisations that include AgForce Qld, Monto Dairy Festival, Monto Show Society, Monto Historical Society and Mulgildie CWA.

Bob Gordon
Appointment: 24 August 2014 to 23 August 2017.
Mr Bob Gordon has almost 50 years experience in journalism and understands the community sector of South East Queensland. He was previously Chief-of-Staff of The Canberra Times and later The Courier Mail, Editor of the Queensland Sunday Mail and Editor-in-Chief of Gold Coast Publications Pty Ltd. He has interests in Chinese and Korean culture, sports and the arts. Mr Gordon is a board member of The Gold Coast Suns, the Griffith University Glycomics fundraising group and Cedar Creek Winery.

Monica James
Appointment: 24 August 2014 to 23 August 2017.
Monica James has worked in South West Queensland’s community services for many years, including the economic and community development, tourism, education, community events and sport and recreation sectors. She is an active member of many local businesses, and cultural and sporting organisations, and understands the needs of organisations and the difficulties faced by small clubs and groups. Monica is a qualified Justice of the Peace and has received an Australia Day Citizen of the Year Award for her contributions to the Quilpie Shire community. She was also awarded the Judges Commendation in the 2013 Queensland Rural Regional and Remote Women’s Network ‘Strong Women Leadership Awards’ (professional category).

The Hon Peter Lindsay OAM
Appointment: 24 August 2014 to 23 August 2017.
The Honourable Peter Lindsay has been a representative of his community as a Councillor for Townsville City Council and also as the Federal Member for Herbert. During his term as a federal member, The Honourable Peter Lindsay was appointed as an Australian Defence Minister and as Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives. He has continued to work with the local community and is currently a member of Townsville Enterprise Ltd’s Economic Development Strategic Advisory Committee Townsville.

Terrence Moore PSM
Appointment: 24 August 2014 to 23 August 2017.
Mr Terrence Moore’s experience in senior management and the community service sector was recognised when he was named Queensland Municipal Manager of the Year and Professional Manager of the Year for Tropical North Queensland. He was also awarded a Public Service Medal (PSM) for outstanding public service to local government by Her Majesty the Queen in the Australia Day Honour List. Mr Moore is also an active Rotarian and a Paul Harris Fellow. Currently, Mr Moore continues serving the community as a member of local organisations on the Gold Coast.

Michael Sarquis
Appointment: 24 August 2014 to 23 August 2017.
Mr Mike Sarquis was appointed Executive Director of the Office of Liquor and Gaming Regulation as of 1 July 2008, having formerly held the position of Executive Director of Queensland Office of Gaming Regulation from October 2006. His responsibilities include managing the gaming and liquor regulatory licensing and compliance regimes, and implementing the responsible gambling strategy and harm minimisation programs. Mr Sarquis is responsible for the administration of Queensland’s community benefit funds, is a current member of the Responsible Gambling Advisory Committee and is a steering committee member of the International Association of Gaming Regulators.

Julie Strudwick
Appointment: 24 August 2014 to 23 August 2017.
Ms Julie Strudwick has been involved in the clubs industry for 22 years and in the hospitality industry for 28 years. She has held many positions during this time, including General Manager of Moreton Bay Boat Club, board member of Clubs Queensland and Sunshine Coast Zone Chair of Clubs Queensland. Her years of involvement with sporting groups, clubs and community groups/charities have been very rewarding and have given her insight into the needs of these organisations. Ms Strudwick is currently Manager of Keppel Bay Sailing Club in Yeppoon.
