Nominate for the Queensland Work Safe Awards 2010 – Category 5 – and win $1000

The Queensland Work Safe Awards celebrate, showcase and reward innovative ideas, leadership and commitment to workplace health and safety. They are a unique opportunity for Queensland businesses and individuals to be recognised as leaders in workplace health and safety and electrical safety.

The awards are open to Queensland businesses and individuals who have developed or implemented safety solutions and practices that have resulted in health and safety improvements, no matter how big or small.

There are five award categories.

  • Category 1 – Best workplace health and safety management system
  • Category 2 – Best solution to an identified workplace health and safety issue
  • Category 3 – Best workplace health and safety practices in small business
  • Category 4 – Best individual contribution to workplace health and safety
  • Category 5 – Best solution to an identified electrical safety issue

The electrical safety award recognises excellence in developing and implementing a solution to an identified workplace electrical safety issue.

Entries for the award may include a product solution, engineering innovation, a training program, an awareness raising activity or other risk control measure that reduces the risk of electrocution and electrical related injury.

2009 winner - Stanwell Corporation developed and implemented a procedure to manage arc flash hazards through the use of arc flash registers and electrical panel door labeling.

2008 highly commended – Electrical and Communications Association (ECA) centrally managed industry wide electrical and workplace safety systems to help electrical contractors to comply with their obligations under the Electrical Safety Act 2002 and the Workplace Health and Safety Act 1995.

2007 winner – Upper Haughton Harvesting Pty Ltd, Giru developed a simple and cost-effective solution to minimize the risk of contact with overhead powerlines when sugar cane unloading and bin handling are undertaken at rail sidings. To view these entries visit www.worksafe.qld.gov.au.
