Electrical worker licence renewal
An electrical worker licence is valid for five years, unless it is cancelled or suspended. You must keep your licence current if you are performing electrical work. If your licence is due for renewal and a renewal notice has not arrived in the mail, phone 1300 362 320. To renew your licence, you need evidence that you’ve maintained your trade and first aid skills. If the licence is renewed within 12 months of expiry, the renewed licence will be issued with an expiry date five years from the original expiry date.
Step 1: Skills Maintenance
To renew your licence, you need to have kept your basic skills up-to-date in:
- electrical safety legislation
- risk management
- testing
- resuscitation.

Registered training organisations also deliver a number of approved skills maintenance courses.
Step 2: Online Renewal
Online renewal requires that you have a current CPR qualification. In order to be current it must have been issued within the last 12 months. You must keep your rescue and resuscitation skills current. You may need them to save a life. You need to prove you are competent in resuscitation of a person who has stopped breathing, or is unconscious, because of electric shock.
The renewal also includes payment options of bank transfer or direct debit.
Use this online application to:
- renew a Queensland electrical work licence due to expire
- reinstate an electrical work licence which has expired in the last 12 months.

Before you start make sure you have your:
- pre-printed renewal form and the guidelines for your renewal, both of which have been mailed to you. You need the identifying numbers printed on the mailed form to be able to fill in this on-line renewal
- evidence you have met skills maintenance requirements
- evidence of competence in resuscitation
- evidence of competence for lineworker rescue.
It will take approximately 10 minutes to do your application online. To complete your application you must forward (by post or fax or email) all supporting documentation and pay the licence fee.
Electrical worker licence recognition - applying for a new licence if expired for more than 12 months
An electrical worker licence is valid for five years, unless it is cancelled or suspended. You must keep your licence current if you are performing electrical work. To have your previous licence recognised as a relevant qualification for a new licence, you must supply evidence that you have maintained your trade and cardio pulmonary resuscitation skills. In the case of a linesperson licence you must supply evidence that you have maintained your lineworker rescue skills.
If you require recognition of a restricted electrical worker licence, an occupational need must also be demonstrated by submitting a current employer’s letter detailing the incidental electrical work required to be performed, electrical equipment and voltages to be worked on.

Step 2: Complete an application form for recognition of previous licence
Recognition of your licence requires that you have a current CPR qualification. In order to be current it must have been issued within the last 12 months. You must keep your rescue and resuscitation skills current. You may need them to save a life. You need to prove you are competent in resuscitation of a person who has stopped breathing, or is unconscious, because of electric shock.

Before you complete the form make sure you have:
- evidence you have met skills maintenance requirements
- evidence of competence in resuscitation
- evidence of competence for lineworker rescue
- your current employers letter for recognition of a restricted electrical worker licence.
To complete your application you must forward by post all supporting documentation and pay the licence fee.

Electrical Contractor licences
You cannot renew or reinstate your electrical contractor licence if:
- It has been expired for more than one year; or
- You have changed the structure of your business (e.g. changed from sole trader to a company); or
- you have changed your ABN.

Step 2: Certificate of Currency
A copy of your certificate of currency needs to be forwarded to Electrical Licensing by Fax (07) 3247 9453.
Additional licences
You cannot apply for additional classes of licence or endorsements using this form.
