Recognition of prior learning

Recognition of prior learning (RPL) is a form of assessment to find if a person has the experience, and training for the required competencies to allow exemption from a recognised training program.

People who believe they are competent in the appropriate electrical work may apply for a restricted electrical licence in recognition of their prior learning.

Applicants will need to provide documentary evidence of their training and experience, which will include:

  • evidence of previous achievements
  • references from persons familiar with their achievements like employers and supervisors
  • course certificates
  • trade or other relevant qualifications.

If the documentary evidence is not enough, applicants may have to show their competence with a theory and or practical assessment.

RPL assessment is carried out by a registered training organisations (RTO).
