Managing risk

  • Identify hazards in a work situation.
  • Assess the risk of injury or damage to property that the hazard presents.
  • Use the assessment to make a list of ways to minimise risks or eliminate hazards. Think how you can:
  • eliminate risk
  • substitute with a less hazardous material, process or equipment
  • redesign equipment or work process
  • isolate the hazard
  • introduce administrative controls
  • use appropriate personal protective clothing.
  • Implement control measures.
  • Monitor and review their effectiveness.

Refer to the Electrical Safety Code of Practice 2010 - Electrical Work (PDF File, 740.7 KB) for help in identifying hazards.

Appendix B details further information on electrical hazards.

Be aware of other issues not directly relating to electrical safety that may also pose hazards. An example is working on roads or in confined spaces. For more imformation on Risk Management please see the Electrical Safety Code of Practice 2010 - Risk Management (PDF File, 616.5 KB).
