Disciplinary actions taken against electrical contractor and employee
An electrical worker who left a number of serious defects at a job has been suspended.
Examples of the defects included ceiling fans incorrectly wired, wiring in the roof not secured, downlights installed incorrectly, and a number of wires left unterminated.
The Electrical Licensing Committee suspended the worker’s licence for a minimum of three months but agreed to defer the suspension for a month on the condition that the worker attended a course on electrical installation testing. The suspension will be revoked providing he completes the course in the time stated.
The employer, an electrical contractor, did not have appropriate work processes in place as required under the Electrical Safety Act 2002 (the Act). As a result, the Electrical Licensing Committee reprimanded him and his licence was suspended for six months.
The suspension was deferred for three months to enable him to provide evidence that he has revised work processes in place that meet his obligations under the Act. The suspension will be revoked providing he submits the evidence in the time stated.
In addition, random system audits will be undertaken over a 12 month period to verify his compliance with electrical safety legislation.
