Review of electrical safety codes of practice
The Electrical Safety Office (ESO) is currently in the final stages of reviewing the four existing codes of practice that support the Electrical Safety Act 2002.
The codes, which give practical advice on how to meet electrical safety obligations are:
- Code of Practice – Working near exposed live parts
- Code of Practice – Electrical Work
- Code of Practice – Works
- Code of Practice – Electrical Equipment – Rural Industry.
The ESO is updating codes in line with current legislation and standards, and to ensure consistency throughout all codes.
Additionally, the introduction of a risk management code of practice by Workplace Health and Safety Queensland, effective from 15 June 2007, has led to the drafting of a specific risk management code of practice under the Electrical Safety Act 2002.
Consultation drafts of the codes of practice have been discussed with key stakeholders.
The revised codes are expected to start later in 2009.
ESOutlook will provide further information once these codes have been finalised. You are encouraged to familiarise yourself with the codes that apply to you when they become available
