New electrical standard on electrical installations for construction and demolition sites

The latest edition of AS/NZS 3012:2010 Electrical installations – Construction and demolition sites (AS/NZS 3012:2010) was published on 22 June 2010.

Electrical installations on construction and demolition sites must be carried out in accordance with the Wiring Rules AS/NZS 3000, and with the applicable additional requirements of AS/NZS 3012:2010.

The Electrical Safety Office will be enforcing compliance with this new edition from the publication date with the following exceptions:

  • Construction wiring completed under the former edition of AS/NZS 3012:2003 prior to 22 June 2010;
  • Construction wiring quoted under the former edition of (AS/NZS 3012:2003 and for which a contract has been awarded may be performed under the former edition of AS/NZS 3012:2003; and
  • The new edition of AS/NZS 3012: 2010 may be applied to the above circumstances where it does not cause onerous changes or costs.
