Second apprentice program

The Electrical Safety Office has farewelled another three electrical apprentices after their three month placement program on Friday, 2 July 2010.

During their placement they learnt about critical aspects of electrical safety that they will take with them into industry.

Apprentices Mr Nathan McIntosh, Ms Sarah O’Brien and Mr Magnus Lai presented what they had learnt to ESO management, to representatives of the participating regions' inspectorate, and to Electro Group Apprentice (EGA) Operations Manager Mr Patrick Stabback and Field Placement Officer Ms Charmaine Goulding. EGA are the apprentices group training organisation employer for the duration of their apprenticeship.

Nathan, Sarah and Magnus  have learnt some very valuable lessons during their time with the ESO. As well as being more aware of the Electrical Safety Act 2002, relevant Codes of Practice and Australian Standards, they now know a lot more about on-site risk management and electrical verification theory and practice.

The training ensures the apprentices’ work will be safe and of a high quality. It has helped the apprentices recognised the value (and the legislative compliance requirements) of 'not working live on' or 'near live parts'.

The apprentices represented the second intake of the ESO apprentice placement program. In the near future they will address approximately 100 of their EGA peers to spread the safety message.

The ESO commenced its third intake of apprentices on Monday, 6 September 2010.
