Public holidays

The approved public holidays for the 2011/2012 Christmas / New Year period in Queensland are:

Sunday 25 December 2011 (Christmas Day)
Monday 26 December 2011  (Boxing Day)
Tuesday 27 December 2011  (Additional public holiday for Christmas Day)
Sunday 1 January 2012 (New Year’s Day)
Monday 2 January 2012 (Additional public holiday for New Year’s Day)

Christmas trading hours

The extended trading relates to various areas throughout the State for the four Sundays prior to Christmas day being 27 November, 4 December, 11 December and 18 December and the period 18 to 24 December 2011.

All non-exempt shops throughout the State will be closed on Sunday, 25 December 2011. Trading on Monday, 26 December 2011, Tuesday 27 December 2011, Sunday 1 January 2012 and Monday, 2 January 2012 is permitted in various areas of Queensland.

Over the Christmas period independent retail shops have unrestricted trading hours except on Christmas day, Sunday, 25 December 2011 which is a closed day. Independent retail shops which are predominantly food and/or grocery shops are permitted to open on 25 December 2011.

Trading hours for Exempt shops are unrestricted subject to the trading hours legislation.
