Births, deaths and marriages

What is BDM?

The primary function of the Queensland Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages is to record and maintain life event registrations. The Registry manages the most fundamental life event information and is the certifier and issuer of the most primary source of proof of identity. Clients require certified documents to transact business with government organisations and financial institutions. Whilst registration and certification services will always be the platform for Registry operations, there are now greater obligations around identity security and fraud prevention.

Family history research

Search our historical records and order historical certificates.

Following consideration of client feedback, the Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages will launch an improved Historical Index Search Facility effective from the 1st July 2010. In addition to some minor cosmetic and processing changes the major improvements are as follows:

  • the addition of wildcard searching;
  • the addition of variable date searching (day and or month and or year); and
  • the return of district identifiers on registration numbers.
