Historical certificates
We hold records of births, deaths and marriages which occurred in Queensland since 1829.
In 1856 Queensland introduced a system of compulsory registration of life events. We hold records for:
- births registered in Queensland up to and including 1914
- deaths registered in Queensland up to and including 1964
- marriages registered in Queensland up to and including 1934.
Our archive also holds a number of church records covering:
- baptisms and burials that occurred between 1829 and 1856
- church marriages between 1839 and 1856.
Unrestricted records
Unrestricted or historical records are available to anyone. These are records of:
- births that tooke place more than 100 years ago
- marriages that took placemore than 75 years ago
- deaths that occurred more than 30 years ago.
Anyone can receive a certificate of a historical record.

Ordering historical certificates
To order a historical certificate you need to complete the relevant application form and pay the scheduled fee (PDF, 117.7 KB) for a standard certificate (fee includes postage within Australia).
Please note: You do not need to provide proof of your identity; anyone is entitled to receive a historical birth, death or marriage certificate.
