Marriages

The Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages registers all marriages that take place in Queensland. A marriage must be registered before you can apply for a marriage certificate.

We also offer an elegant and affordable ceremony room in the heritage listed former Government Printery in Brisbane for stylish ceremonies at the registry. Many regional Magistrates Courts also conduct ceremonies.

Before getting married

Before you can be married in Queensland, you need to give at least one month notice of your intent to marry.

Register a marriage

Your celebrant will lodge the necessary documents to register your marriage with us.

Marriage certificate

Apply for a standard or commemorative marriage certificate.

Overseas marriages

Overseas marriages can’t be registered in Queensland. If you intend marrying overseas, we can supply a ‘No record of marriage in Queensland’ document to prove that you are free to marry.

Becoming a celebrant

To conduct marriages in Australia, Celebrants and Ministers of Religion must be registered.
