What happens after you are arrested

When it is alleged that an offence is committed, Queensland Police will investigate the matter.

If the investigator considers there is enough evidence to prove that you have broken the law, they will charge you with an offence.

By law, the police must ensure anyone charged with a criminal offence appears in the Magistrates Court as soon as possible after their arrest.

The role of the courts is to decide if you are guilty beyond a reasonable doubt and if so, what the penalty will be.
