26-30 Hodgkinson Street
Charters Towers QLD 4820

When first constructed in 1886, the local press criticised the Charters Towers Courthouse architecture.

Today the courthouse is widely regarded as one of the best of the remaining historic buildings in Charters Towers, a gold mining city big on history and character.

The municipality of Charters Towers was declared in June 1877 with John McDonald elected as the town’s first mayor.

The Charters Towers Courthouse was first occupied in 1886 amid the thriving goldfield city of 25,000 inhabitants.
