Childers

67 Churchill Street
Childers QLD 4660

Childers Courthouse was built in 1897 and is a well preserved example of the country courthouses built throughout Queensland at the turn of the 20th century.

The courthouse illustrates the type of public buildings being erected during a period of unprecedented growth. In the late 1800s boom, Childers was emerging as the flourishing centre of a substantial sugar-growing district.

Originally built as a single-storey timber building in 1897, major additions to the courthouse were completed in 1900.

The courthouse has served the surrounding Isis Shire community for over a century not only in the administration of justice but as an administrative centre for a range of government services.
