Maryborough

170 Richmond Street
Maryborough QLD 4650

Considered by some as one of the most attractive country courthouses, the Maryborough Court is also the longest serving courthouse in Queensland.

In continuous use by the supreme, district and magistrates courts since 1878, the recently restored Maryborough Courthouse is the oldest courthouse in use in the state. Maryborough is Queensland's third oldest city.

Essentially rectangular in form with corner towers and connecting verandahs, the courthouse was constructed in rendered brick, with timber work forming the verandahs.

The complex was the first large court building designed for a rural town. It was the forerunner for several other buildings in regional areas.

Today the building stands as part of the historic Wharf Street precinct in central Maryborough and is included on both the Register of the National Estate and the Queensland Heritage Register.
