Become an appointed mediator
We employ mediators to provide free mediation services to people in Queensland. We have Dispute Resolution Centres in Brisbane, Mackay, Townsville, Rockhampton and Cairns and we also have mediators based in many other areas in Queensland. Each Dispute Resolution Centre appoints mediators to their panel as needed and mediators are attached to their nearest centre.
Our mediators
Our policy for appointing mediators to the Dispute Resolution Centre has three basic requirements:
- the range of mediators should reflect the make up of the Queensland community in terms of age, gender, race and socio-economic position
- formal qualifications are not required but mediators must have good listening and communication skills and all mediators will be required to have successfully completed our mediation skills training
- a mediator must have, or be able to apply for, National Mediator Accreditation under the National Mediation Accreditation System.
If you are appointed to be a mediator to the Dispute Resolution Centre panel, you will join a panel of mediators who are called on when needed to mediate in disputes. This is casual work and may be irregular. Currently, most mediations take place during work hours. You will be paid by the hour.
We increase the panel of mediators as needed. We generally do this through inviting past participants of our Mediation Skills training who have gone on to achieve National Mediator Accreditation.
Advertising of mediator positions
At times, we also advertise our mediator positions in the Courier Mail newspaper, regional papers and on the SmartJobs website.
People who are currently accredited mediators
Those who have achieved National Mediator Accreditation and who wish to be considered for casual employment as mediator by our Dispute Resolution Centre can send their resume to the training coordinator. These resumes will be held on file and considered when new mediators are needed.
