Managing conflict at work
How good are your conflict management skills? Do you have some strategies to help de-escalate tension or do you find yourself floundering to know what to say and how to calm the situation down? Or do you come out fighting only to find this seems to make the situation worse?
Conflict is a part of life and a part of our work life. It is important to learn the skills needed to manage it well. These might include
- Managing your own responses when you feel under pressure
- Understanding what amplifies conflict
- Knowing the communication skills that de-escalate
- Developing ‘interest based’ negotiation skills to create win-win outcomes
- Considering the dynamics of bullying and how to respond effectively
These are some of the topics that are included in our 3 day Workplace Conflict Resolution (PDF, 114.3 KB) training. This training is held in conjunction with Griffith University and can be undertaken on its own or as part of the Post Graduate Certificate in Dispute Resolution. It is interactive training, with participants discussing issues so they can apply their learning to their own workplace situation.
