National mediator accreditation

National Mediator Accreditation is based on the National Mediator Accreditation Standards that were introduced in 2008. These standards have been developed to enhance the quality of mediation services nationally. It is a voluntary accreditation, but many mediators and their employing agencies, seek this accreditation through organisations referred to as Recognised Mediator Accreditation Bodies (RMABs). National Mediator Accreditation provides external recognition and validation of mediators’ skills.

To achieve National Mediator Accreditation, a mediator either needs to have consistently practised mediation before 2008 or be trained under the requirements outlined in the National Mediator Accreditation Standards, the Practice Standards and the Approval Standards.

You can meet these training requirements by successfully completing our 5 day Mediation Skills training and our 3 day Mediator Development Training, which includes National Mediator Accreditation Assessment. We will then assist you to apply for National Mediator Accreditation which lasts for two years. During those two years you will need to meet ongoing practise standards to ensure you are eligible to re-accredit.

For dates and locations of Mediation Skills training and Mediator Development training view the training calendar.

Other dispute resolution training is also available in Workplace Conflict Resolution, Facilitating effective groups and Restorative Justice. Dates and locations are also available on the training calendar.
