Licence suspensions
Can I have an Instalment Plan once I have been given a 'Notice of Intention to Suspend Driver Licence'?
Yes. You can pay in full or apply for an Instalment Plan even after a notice of 'Intention to Suspend Driver Licence' has been issued. Either of these actions will prevent your licence from being suspended.
How can I get my licence re-instated after a suspension?
You can pay your fine/order in full or you can agree to pay by instalments. You may need to make an upfront payment to SPER prior to your application being approved. If you are unable to pay by instalments, you may request a financial assessment to determine if you are eligible to have your fine converted to unpaid community service. Contact the SPER call centre on 1300 365 635 for your options.
Can I get a special licence so that I can still work?
No. A SPER licence suspension applies to all motor vehicle licenses in Queensland and no special provisions exist to allow for a restricted licence (e.g. work licence).
You must either pay in full, agree to pay by instalments, or request a financial assessment to identify if you can have your fine converted to unpaid community service.
Does the suspension of my licence affect my vehicle insurance?
No. The suspension of a driver licence under the State Penalties Enforcement Act does not terminate a vehicle insurance policy. Refer to section 108 of the State Penalties Enforcement Act 1999 for further information.
Can I pay at Australia Post?
Yes. Take your 'Notice of Intention to Suspend Driver Licence' to your local Australia Post Office or via the internet with POSTbillpay.
