Enforcement officers

To assist in the enforcement and collection of unpaid fines, Enforcement Officers have been employed by SPER and can be identified by two separate documents:

  • Photograph ID Card identifying the bearer as an employee of the Department of Justice and Attorney General.
  • Larger photograph ID Card, identifying the bearer as an Enforcement Officer for SPER and signed by the Registrar of SPER.

Enforcement Officers are in a position to personally assist you in finalising your outstanding SPER fines. They can offer advice about the numerous payment options available to you, including paying off your fines via Centrepay or directly from your bank account. Simple, easy and at no extra cost to you. Should you wish to make a payment upfront, the Enforcement Officers are able to issue receipts for cash or cheque payments only.

Enforcement Officers are also responsible for the attempted execution of any Enforcement Warrant issued by the Registrar of SPER and have the power to seize and sell personal property. They have the authority to ask a person questions on a range of subjects, including the person’s full name and date of birth, address, employment details, bank account details, driver licence number, who owns specified property, pension details, and income and expenditure. An Enforcement Officer may also require the person to provide evidence of the correctness of any information given. A person must comply with a request or risk prosecution and a possible fine (maximum $750.00).

If necessary, an Enforcement Officer may apply for a search warrant to enter premises if access is restricted.

Please be aware, that to protect your privacy, Enforcement Officers will not discuss information with you unless they are satisfied they are speaking with the correct person.
