Contact us about training

Victim Assist Queensland is the unit within the Department of Justice and Attorney-General which administers the financial assistance scheme for victims of personal crime in Queensland.

Victim Assist recognise that following a violent crime, victims often require a range of support services, one of which being financial assistance to pay for expenses incurred as a result of the act of violence. For example, financial assistance may be available to reimburse out of pocket medical, dental and counselling expenses, loss of earnings or travel to and from Doctors appointments.

As a relatively new business area, we find that many agencies working with victims of crime are unaware of the scheme and the assistance available to their clients.

If your agency would like an information or training session, brochures or posters please email Victims Linkup or call 1300 546 587.

Training topics can include:

  • an overview of the Victims of Crime Assistance Act 2009
  • the different victim categories and levels of financial assistance available
  • the eligibility criteria for victims of crime when making an application
  • the process for financial assistance (including expected timeframes)
  • the Fundamental Principles of Justice for victims of crime and the complaints process for victims if they feel these rights have not been met
