LGBTQ Domestic Violence Awareness Day
Monday 22 May 2023 8.00 am
LGBTQ Domestic Violence Awareness Foundation
Held annually on May 28, LGBTQ Domestic Violence Awareness Day is the only day like it in the world. What started in Queensland, is now a global event with over 400 government departments and organisations from 14 countries recognising the day, including England, France, Wales, the USA, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand and the Netherlands. The right to live a life free from violence and abuse is a person’s most basic human right, but for many LGBTQ people, this is not a reality. 1 in 2 LGBTQ people will experience domestic, family and intimate partner violence and abuse (DV) in their lifetime, yet victims remain largely invisible with incredibly low levels of reporting. With your support, we can ensure that there are no invisible victims in the future and that everyone, no matter what their sexuality or gender identity, can feel #SeenAndBelieved and gain hope and courage.
