The events promoted in the Women's Safety and Violence Prevention community events calendar send a clear message that gendered violence will not be tolerated, and that our community will strive for promotion and protection of women’s rights, interests and wellbeing all year round.
Community groups are encouraged to register an event to be considered for inclusion in the calendar.

To begin May 2022, National Domestic & Family Violence Prevention Month, the Women’s Shelter together with the Family Wellbeing Centre will be hosting a 3 Week Women’s Healing Program at the Women’s Shelter. This will collaborate with a 3 Week Community Sessions around Palm Island with stalls providing information bags/handouts on the effects of DFV on families in our community. Speeches on DFV and a free barbecue. Program consist of many topics that focus on healing and trauma. Each week there will be a different topic to discuss. The program gives light to many people, mainly women who are or have suffered some form of abuse from either intimate or family relationships. Women that are suffering through loss of family, friends, community, culture, because of DFV. The programs take a holistic approach to healing, which addresses the mental, physical, emotional and spiritual needs and involves connections to culture, family, land and community.
