Review of the Retail Shop Leases Act 1994
Activity occurred prior to the current government.
The statutory review of the Retail Shop Leases Act 1994 (the Act), which has examined whether the provisions of the Act are appropriate for the Queensland retail leasing environment, has been completed.
The review included the release of a discussion paper in 2011 and an options paper in May 2013. Submissions to the discussion paper and submissions to the options paper were received from retail, lessor, industry and professional stakeholders.
In June 2013, a reference group was established comprising key retail sector and professional stakeholders to consider the options paper and submissions in response to the options paper, and make recommendations to assist the Government in deciding the outcomes of the review.
The statutory report on the review was tabled in the Legislative Assembly on 25 November 2014 during the introduction of the Retail Shop Leases Amendment Bill 2014 (the Bill) which gives effect to the outcomes of the review. The statutory report attaches the reference group report.
The Bill was referred to the Legal Affairs and Community Safety Committee (the Committee) for detailed consideration. The Committee is required to report to Parliament on the Bill by 2 February 2015. Public submissions to the Committee on the Bill close on 2 January 2015.
