Death Review and Advisory Board forum
On Tuesday 8 May, the Queensland Domestic and Family Violence Death Review and Advisory Board (the Board) held a public forum at the Griffith University College of Art to discuss findings from their inaugural Annual Report.
Opened by the Attorney General and Minister for Justice the Honourable Yvette D'Ath, and featuring an overview provided by Kay McGrath, OAM, Chairperson of the Domestic and Family Violence Implementation Council, the forum was well-attended by a range of stakeholders and other community members.
This was the first public forum of its kind in Australia where attendees had the opportunity to unpack findings from a domestic and family violence death review process, directly with Board members.
As such this was a unique opportunity for attendees to hear from members and other special guests regarding their personal perspectives of the key learnings of the review process to date, and to ask questions of the Board on particular topics of interest.
Facilitated by Pro-Vice Chancellor Paul Mazerolle from Griffith University, discussions focused on ways we can all work together to learn from these tragedies and prevent these types of deaths, through ongoing cultural change, reducing barriers to effective supports, and focusing on driving continuous improvement in service delivery.
