Remote journey provides insight
A law student with a passion for working in the domestic and family violence sector, landed the opportunity of a lifetime last month.
The student, Samantha from QUT, job shadowed Magistrate Stephen Courtney of the Townsville Specialist Domestic and Family Violence Circuit Court as part of the Department of Justice and Attorney-General's annual Law Week Justice Journeys work experience program. Samantha spent 5 days witnessing all that's involved with providing law and justice services to remote regions including Palm Island.
Her Justice Journey video was promoted during Law Week (14-20 May).
Magistrate Stephen Courtney was appointed to the Townsville Specialist Domestic and Family Violence Court last year. He flies regularly to Mt Isa and Palm Island bringing the specialist approach to domestic and family violence matters to remote areas.
