Unity in Our Community Aurukun
The Aurukun Women's Shelter (RAATSICC) hosted four major events in May 2019 to support the Not Now Not Ever Challenge. This year's theme was 'Unity in our community'.
The events included spreading awareness to the students of Aurukun State School, the best damper in Aurukun, a candle lighting ceremony and a family fishing fun outing.
The events were aimed at bringing community members together despite their family differences and issues.
RAATSICC raised awareness about elder abuse, remembrance of domestic and family violence victims, verbal, physical and financial abuse and the message that violence is not okay.
All the sessions ended with messages of respect, forgiveness, love, peace and unity in Aurukun.
