Regulatory framework for online alcohol sales and deliveries in Queensland

The Department of Justice and Attorney-General is consulting on proposed measures to develop a new regulatory framework for online alcohol sales and deliveries in Queensland. This may involve amendments to the Liquor Act 1992 and the Wine Industry Act 1994.

Queensland’s current liquor laws don’t provide explicit authorisations or harm-minimisation obligations in relation to online alcohol sales and deliveries. Online alcohol sales and deliveries pose unique regulatory challenges involving the customer and the licensee, third-party delivery provider and delivery person. The proposed new regulatory framework is to ensure the responsible service of alcohol at the point of sale and point of delivery.

This consultation will consider the potential benefits, costs, risks, issues and impacts associated with online alcohol sales and deliveries in Queensland.

Have your say

We now invite you to make a written submission in response to the Consultation paper.

We are seeking community views on proposed measures reflecting modern business operations and addressing the risk of harm from alcohol delivery, particularly the potential supply of alcohol to minors and unduly intoxicated persons.

Your feedback will inform further policy development and recommendations on the new regulatory framework to be considered by the Queensland Government.

Submissions are now open and the closing date is 5pm on Friday 23 June 2023.
