Sexual violence media guide

The Sexual violence media guide (PDF) can assist media with responsible and appropriate reporting on sexual violence in Queensland. It provides advice for trauma-informed reporting on the issue of sexual violence.

The Sexual violence media guide was developed in response to Recommendation 84 of the Women’s Safety and Justice Taskforce (the Taskforce) second and final report Hear her voice—Report Two—Women and girls' experiences across the criminal justice system.

The Sexual violence media guide also addresses the removal of the prohibition on naming those accused with prescribed sexual offences, except where it would identify—or tend to lead to the identification of—a complainant. Prescribed offences include rape, attempt to commit rape, assault with intent to commit rape and sexual assault.

Subsequent editions of the Sexual violence media guide will be produced to reflect future legislative amendments which may impact media reporting.
