Consideration of shield laws to protect journalists’ confidential sources

The Attorney-General released the Shielding confidential sources: Balancing the public’s right to know and the court’s need to know discussion paper (PDF) to guide consultation on the consideration of shield laws for Queensland.

The paper set out some key elements for consideration in the development of shield laws, including the positions in other Australian jurisdictions.

Feedback was sought from all interested parties on the best way to achieve reform in relation to new laws to protect journalists from being compelled to reveal confidential sources.
