Free conflict resolution training
Free negotiation skills workshops are available during Law Week on 11 and 12 May 2015 by registering at trainingdrb@justice.qld.gov.au by Friday 8 May 2015.
Small business owners in the Greater Brisbane area can undertake free negotiation skills workshops during Law Week this month (May).
Training Coordinator Janet Barnes said the Dispute Resolution Branch would run free workshops on interest-based negotiation on 11 and 12 May 2015.
“Interest-based negotiation involves both parties identifying what they want; acknowledging what they have in common and working through their differences,” Ms Barnes said.
“It is one of the most important methods of dispute resolution and can help parties resolve their problems while maintaining their valuable business relationship.
“The sessions would be beneficial for small businesses and I’d encourage people to take this opportunity to attend during Law Week which is held nationally each year to promote public understanding of the law and its role in society.”
The free workshops will be held from 2-4pm on 11 May and 9-11am on 12 May 2015.
The Dispute Resolution Branch handles more than 11,000 enquiries each year from people in dispute and conducts a range of dispute resolution training courses.
Ms Barnes said a three-day facilitation skills training workshop would also be offered at a discounted price during Law Week.
“Participants who register for the ‘Facilitating effective groups’ course being run from 13-15 May 2015 will be eligible for a special Law Week rate,” she said.
“The course provides the skills needed to become an effective group facilitator by helping improve skills in managing conflict in work groups and in facilitating and motivating group decision-making processes.
“This training is ideal for business people as the skills are useful it will assist in running business meetings, negotiations and team building, and skills useful in any large group setting.”
