Improved access to JPs for North Townsville residents

A new JPs in the Community signing site will ensure North Townsville residents have easy and reliable access to Justice of the Peace (JP) witnessing services.

Damien Mealey, Registrar and Manager of the Justice of the Peace Branch, Department of Justice and Attorney-General, said the site would ensure North Townsville residents had easy and reliable access to witnessing services.

“The new site will provide vital witnessing services to the fast growing northern beaches community of Townsville,” Mr Mealey said.

“It is so important for the community to have easy access to JP services, and I’d like to thank all the volunteers and stakeholders who have made this possible.”

Mr Mealey said the volunteer team would comprise seven local JPs and Commissioners for Declarations (Cdecs).

“I would particularly like to thank the North Townsville Community Hub Inc. (NOTCH) for their help securing this service. It is great to see such community spirit – people with skills who are prepared to give up their time to help others,” he said.

“This is the newest of the 233 JPs in the Community Program sites across Queensland, stretching from Coolangatta to Mossman and west to Mt Isa.”

Anyone interested in joining the NOTCH volunteers or another of the JPs in the Community signing sites, should contact the JP Branch on 1300 301 147.

The new JPs in the Community site will be launched this Monday, 16 October 2017 at 52 Palm Drive, Deeragun and will initially operate Monday and Friday, 9.00am to noon.

The JP Branch’s Senior Community Engagement Officer, Ms Belinda Cronau will be on site to assist with the launch and also to deliver a professional development workshop for the JPs in the local area.
