Improved access to JPs for Roma residents
Roma’s first ever JPs in the Community signing site will launch this Saturday at the Roma Library next door to the Community Arts Centre.
Damien Mealey, Registrar and Manager of Justice of the Peace Branch, Department of Justice and Attorney-General, said the site would ensure Roma residents had easy and reliable access to (JP) witnessing services.
“The new site will provide vital witnessing services to the local community; previously the nearest signing site from Roma was in Dalby – three hours away,” Mr Mealey said.
“It is so important a community the size of Roma has easy access to JP services, and I’d like to thank all the volunteers and stakeholders who have made this possible.
“It is great to see such community spirit – people with skills who are prepared to give up their time to help others.”
Mr Mealey said the volunteer team would comprise several local JPs and Commissioners for Declarations (C.decs).
“The volunteers are keen to commence operations and provide Roma with an efficient weekly signing site service,” he said.
“The site is the newest of the 233 JPs in the Community Program sites across Queensland, stretching from Coolangatta to Mossman and west to Mt Isa.”

The new JPs in the Community site will be launched this Saturday, 14 October 2017 at the Roma Library, 38-44 Hawthorne Street. It will operate at the centre on Saturdays from 11am-noon.
