Overnight fire - Queen Elizabeth II Courts of Law, Brisbane

Authorities were alerted to a fire on Level 11 of the Queen Elizabeth II Courts of Law at 415 George Street, Brisbane by the fire alarm system about 7pm yesterday.

A number of people were evacuated from the building at that time. No-one was injured.

Six fire crews attended and the fire was extinguished about 11pm. The incident was contained to an electrical supply room. Rectification work will be performed onsite at the weekend.

Queensland Fire and Rescue Service fire inspectors will attend the site today.

Department of Justice and Attorney-General Director-General David Mackie said it was expected that the Court would be fully operational on Monday (20 February) but a further update would be provided.

“Many thanks to the officers from the Queensland Fire and Rescue Service, Queensland Police Service and building security who responded so professionally in getting the situation under control quickly,” Mr Mackie said.
