Queenslanders warned about hoax ‘courts’ email

Queenslanders are being warned about a hoax email claiming to be from the Brisbane Magistrates Court.

The email, with the subject line ‘Affidavit and Application 3288/19’, advises that a civil application has been set down for 28 June and asks people to click on an attachment for details.

“Anyone who receives this email should delete it immediately and not click on any attachment,” a spokesperson for the Department of Justice and Attorney-General (DJAG) said.

“The email has not been sent by Queensland Courts and the attachment appears to contain malicious content.

“The email has been sent by a scammer impersonating a Department of Justice and Attorney-General email account to distribute malicious material to the public.

“If you currently have a matter before the courts, or if you are expecting to attend court in the near future, please contact the relevant courthouse registry if you wish to confirm any details of your matter.”
