Grants
The Department of Justice and Attorney-General administers two kinds of grants, the Legal Practitioner Interest on Trust Accounts Fund Grants Fund (LPITAF) and the Community Justice Group Grants Fund (CJG).
LPITAF Grants Fund initiatives assist to:
- advance the law
- improve communications and education in the law
- improve community access to legal services.
We encourage initiatives that benefit economically and socially disadvantaged or geographically isolated community members.
The LPITAF Grants Fund does not provide funding for continuing or currently funded services or initiatives already being undertaken within government, tertiary institutions and other organisations.
Funding
The Attorney-General allocates a pool of funding within the LPITAF as a Grants Fund each year. The 2009-10 allocation was $1.5 million.
Eligibility
Any individual or organisation with an eligible initiative which benefits Queenslanders can apply for funding.
Applications
You need to submit a written application by the due date via mail. You cannot apply by email or telephone.
Applications are only valid for the year you apply and funding is for a maximum of 12 months. If you want funding for an initiative for longer than the first 12 months, you will need to submit another application each year for reassessment. Funding is generally provided for a maximum of two consecutive years.
Applicants are encouraged to follow the established annual process. Applications received outside of this process will only be considered at the Attorney-General's discretion, for particularly emergent issues to the extent that the grant funding may remain unallocated.
