Legal profession regulation investment
Independent legal profession regulation services ensure the rights of Queensland legal consumers are protected. The Legal Services Commission, Queensland Law Society and Bar Association of Queensland all perform important roles. The Legal Services Commission is the sole body authorised under the Legal Profession Act 2007 (Qld) to receive and deal with complaints about lawyers, law practice employees, and unlawful operators.
Current funding
In 2022–25 we are investing a total of $24.848 million in the regulation of Queensland’s legal profession.
The triennial funding arrangements provide funding certainty, facilitate long-term decision-making, and promote innovation. These funds are in addition to the practising certificate fees paid by solicitors and barristers to cover the costs of some regulatory functions. Our investment was made under the strategy and investment model.
