Report a concern about child safety
If you are concerned about the way a child has been treated by a current or former Department of Justice staff member, contractor or volunteer, speak up.
You do not need to know the child personally or have all the details to report a concern.
What you can report
You can raise a concern about the way a staff member has treated a child—whether it happened at work or outside of work hours.
Concerns you can report include:
- a child sexual offence
- sexual misconduct committed in relation to, or in the presence of a child
- ill-treatment of a child
- significant neglect of a child
- physical violence committed in relation to, or in the presence of a child
- behaviour that causes significant emotional or psychological harm to a child.
- send the QFCC initial, interim and final reports.

You can report a concern directly to us using our complaint form.

What happens after you report
When you report a concern, we will:
- assess the concerns to decide whether they amount to reportable conduct
- if the assessment confirms the concern amounts to reportable conduct, report the conduct to the Queensland Family and Child and Commission (QFCC) within 3 business days, unless the QFCC agrees to a longer period
- take steps to keep children safe while we investigate.
