Stories of Change

The First Nations Justice Office (FNJO) has partnered with the Queensland Government Statisticians Office to deliver Queensland’s Stories of Change project.

What is Stories of Change?

Stories of Change focusses on the positive stories of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander men and women who have made sustained change towards crime free lives after having contact with Queensland’s criminal justice system.

This project takes a strengths-based research approach where the voices and the lived experiences of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples are heard and shared.

These stories will provide valuable insights and ideas about effective ways to end involvement in the criminal justice system.

The evidence gained from the stories will also help inform program development, interventions, practice and future research designed to reduce the overrepresentation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in the criminal justice system.

Townsville research pilot

The Stories of Change research pilot project will be based in Townsville, with support from local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander groups.

During this project, we will yarn to hear stories from a small cohort of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander men and women, who have made sustained change (minimum 2 years) towards a crime-free life after previously having extensive contact with Queensland’s criminal justice system.
