DSDMIP strives for White Ribbon accreditation
2018 was a successful year for the Department of State Development, Manufacturing, Infrastructure and Planning (DSDMIP), which undertook a range of activities as part of efforts to become an accredited White Ribbon workplace and raise funds for White Ribbon Australia.
The department embraced the White Ribbon Australia Workplace Accreditation Program, which supports organisations to adapt culture, policies and procedures to better respond to and prevent violence against women.
Their end-of-year inaugural trivia event, in the lead-up to Christmas, brought together and put the knowledge of departmental staff from across the state to the test, raising a collective $211.
DSDMIP also partnered with a number of other state agencies in the Coffee for a Cause fundraiser on White Ribbon Day, raising a fantastic $1125.
In July, DSDMIP staff in Brisbane and the regions united in support for White Ribbon Night 2018 and hosted a Signing and Sweets bake sale. The event raised $640.50 and gave staff the opportunity to be part of and pledge their support to the department's White Ribbon Australia Accreditation Program.
The department also supported the Darkness to Daylight Challenge in May, held at Brisbane’s South Bank, where staff took to the pavement to run a collective 176 kilometres, raising $3790. Multiple fundraising morning teas held throughout the year also helped raise funds and support awareness about domestic violence.
DSDMIP’s Human Resources team has led organisation of the events to help the department achieve White Ribbon Accreditation, and support those affected by domestic and family violence.
In 2019, DSDMIP's partnership with a Cape York women's shelter will see the department hold fundraising events and activities which will provide support and assistance for those women and children in the shelter.
