Office of the Director-General
The Office of the Director-General is the point of liaison between the department and the ministerial offices of the Attorney-General and Minister for Justice and Leader of the House. The Office provides professional advice and executive support to the Director-General by undertaking and coordinating policy research, analysis and by making recommendations about the operational management of the department's divisions.
The office consists of the following business areas:
This branch provides support to the executive management of the department and has the following functions:
- coordination of all aspects of Cabinet and Parliamentary processes
- timely and accurate preparation of Executive Council minutes, associated gazette notices and correspondence
- processing and quality control of ministerial correspondence and the maintenance of related recording and reporting activities
- administration and coordination of statutory appointments
- processing and quality control of general briefing notes and speech notes for the Attorney-General.
Executive Services is also responsible for the safe storage of Cabinet and Executive Council documents for the department.
Internal Audit reports directly to the Director-General on both audit and administrative matters. This ensures the unit’s independent status within the department, which enables it to preserve its integrity and maintain a strong position as a fundamental part of the corporate governance framework.
Internal Audit is a statutory function that has been established to provide independent, authoritative and confidential advice to the Director-General and senior management on the effectiveness, efficiency, propriety and probity of departmental operations.
Internal Audit holds a number of documents. However, key documents are audit reports, working papers and the Internal Audit charter. The Right to Information Act 2009 (the RTI Act) and the Information Privacy Act 2009 (the IP Act) give a right of access to information held by the government, unless on balance it would be contrary to the public interest to release the information. Ethical Standards Unit
The Ethical Standards Unit reports directly to the Director-General and operates independently from and is free of the influence of line divisions. The unit is a key integrity assurance measure to promote, encourage and ensure that staff employed by the department behave ethically.
The Ethical Standards Unit is responsible to advise departmental officers on ethical dilemmas and other ethical issues, conflicts of interest, and secondary employment.
The Ethical Standards Unit is also responsible for the development and delivery of programs to improve ethical culture and ethical decision making across the department. Key amongst these are the three hour face-to-face Workplace Ethics workshop for all staff, the two hour face-to-face Tools to do your job workshop for managers and supervisors, and the on-line Workplace Ethics Refresher.
The Ethical Standards Unit also receives, assesses, and where appropriate, case manages the investigation of allegations of misconduct and corrupt conduct and the submission of reports and advice to decision makers involving serious workplace conduct and disciplinary issues.
The unit liaises with the Crime and Corruption Commission about alleged corrupt conduct, the Queensland Police Service about alleged criminal conduct and the Queensland Ombudsman about public interest disclosures.

- Other Employment Policy (second job)
- Conflicts of Interest Policy
- Public Interest Disclosure Policy.
